Febutaz (Febuxostat) reduces the production of uric acid in your body. Uric acid buildup can lead to gout or kidney stones. Febutaz is used to treat gout and also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. 

You should not use Febutaz if you are allergic to Febuxostat, or if you are also being treated with azathioprine, mercaptopurine, or theophylline. 

Before taking Febutaz, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, cancer, Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, a history of heart attack or stroke, or if you have ever received an organ transplant You may have an increase in gout symptom flares when you first start taking Febutaz. For best results, keep taking the medication as directed. Your doctor may prescribe other gout medications for you to use during the first 6 months of treatment with Febutaz. To be sure this medication is helping your condition, your blood may need to be tested often. Visit your doctor regularly.

Take Febutaz exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results. You may have an increase in gout symptom flares when you first start taking Febutaz. For best results, keep taking Febutaz as directed.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

The following is a list of possible side-effects that may occur from all constituting ingredients of Febutaz. This is not a comprehensive list. These side-effects are possible, but do not always occur. Some of the side-effects may be rare but serious. Consult your doctor if you observe any of the following side-effects, especially if they do not go away. Nausea, Tingling in the skin, Swelling of body tissues, Increased in blood lipid levels, Liver function abnormalities, Increased appetite.
